How to Create Smoky Eyes

It’s the perfect eye make up for a night on the town and is really popular for a dramatic yet stylish look. Despite being so fashionable, many women struggle to pull it off, so here’s an easy to follow guide on how to create smoky eyes.

What you’ll need…
Black / dark grey pencil eyeliner
Primer
Eyelash curlers
Pale grey eye shadow
Dark grey / black eye shadow
Mascara
Eyebrow pencil if you have light eyebrows
Glitter – optional
A variety of eye shadow brushes

Achieving the smoky eye shadow look will really emphasise your eyes and is the perfect make up style for a special occasion or night out. Follow these five simple steps to get smoky eyes. It’s best done before the rest of your make to prevent powder drops falling onto your make up base.

Apply a light coat of eye primer to your eyelids from the socket to the corner of your eyes. While this is drying curl your eyelashes.
Apply light grey eye shadow all over your eyelids.
Apply dark grey in the outside corner of your eyes and through the socket. This should frame your eyes.
Using pencil eyeliner, fill in the gaps between your lashes at the lash line by holding your eyelid up and lining the inner rim of your lid as close to the lashes as possible, making this darker in the corners. Apply a light line of liquid eyeliner above your lashes, which flicks out slightly at the side.
Apply two coats of mascara, curling between coats, and if you like dab a little glitter in both corners of the eyes. Shade in your eyebrows if they look too light against your dark eyes.

The smoky eyes look works best when you leave everything else neutral; wear a foundation with good coverage and a dusting of blusher, while clear or muted lips will help to make your smoky eyes stand out. Make sure you apply a good concealer under your eyes; otherwise you could appear to have dark bags.

Eyeliner tips
When sharpening eyeliner do it under water, as this will prevent it from splintering and will bring it to a sharp point.
Don’t keep liquid eyeliner too long, if it starts to dry up it won’t apply well.
If you find liquid eyeliner line too harsh then apply pencil eyeliner above your lashes and smudge for a sultry effect.
